About us

The University of the Philippines Astronomical Society (UP AstroSoc) is a duly recognized student organization of the University of the Philippines-Diliman dedicated to broaden the awareness, interest, knowledge and understanding of Astronomy among students and the general public, to bring together individuals interested in Astronomy, and to promote the common interest as well as the individual development of its members . Through the years, we have continuously sought to uphold our commitment towards the achievement and awareness of scientific study by organizing projects and activities geared toward these objectives.

The Clusters

The Clusters are the organization’s standing committees. The organization has 5 clusters: Education and Research Cluster (EdRes), External Affairs Cluster (Exte), Finance Cluster (Fin), Observation and Instrumentation Cluster (ObsIn), and Resource Cluster (Resource).

Executive Cluster

The Executive Cluster is composed of all elected officers of the organization and serves as the governing body of the organization. It also acts as an evaluator of the activities and performance of its members.

Education and Research Cluster

The Education and Research cluster is responsible for the education sessions such as seminars, workshops, discussion groups, and symposia, which will broaden the knowledge of Astronomy. It is also responsible for the gathering and dissemination of astronomical information and all other educational matters among members.

External Affairs Cluster


The External Affairs Cluster shall be the organization’s liaison to other organizations. It is in charge of the organization’s publications, including newsletters and journals, and the organization’s publicity and information campaigns.

Finance Cluster


The Finance Cluster is the custodian of funds of the organization. It has general supervision over the financial affairs and responsibilities of the organization. It is in charge in the organization and supervision of organization-wide fund- raising activities and the accounts payable of the organization.

Observation and Instrumentation Cluster

The Observation and Instrumentation Cluster is in charge in organizing astronomical observations and other related activities geared towards the development and/or enhancement of observational skills. It is responsible for the acquisition, proper repair and maintenance, and safekeeping of all the organization’s astronomical instruments and equipment and for the formulation of the rules and regulations for their use, and the preparation and/or setting up of the astronomical instruments and equipment before their use. It is also responsible for developing, designing, and reproducing the necessary astronomical tools.

Resource Cluster


The Resource Cluster is in charge of the formulation and implementation of the rules and guidelines for the application process in the organization, and the evaluation of candidates for membership. It is responsible for the implementation of House Rules, and other rules and regulations set by each cluster, the organization of social functions within the organization, and the cleanliness and orderliness of the organization’s headquarters.
